Judge Jared Smith is an Air Force veteran, having answered the call to serve his country after 9/11. He was appointed County Judge in Hillsborough in March 2017 by Gov. Scott after a rigorous selection process with over 30 applicants. Judge Smith graduated summa cum laude with an Accounting degree, and magna cum laude, tied for third in his law school class of 134 students in 2000. He clerked for the Kansas Supreme Court. He joined the Air Force in 2002 and was assigned to MacDill. He is endorsed by Brig. Gen. Chip Diehl (USAF Ret.) (fmr. MacDill wing commander). He is a Florida Bar Board Certified Construction Law expert, and was a partner at Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, P.A. He has been married to Suzette for 19 years, and they have four children.
